yes, we do have laws...

yes you read it right!
believe it or not, we do have laws to minimize environmental impact.

here are 3 of my top picks.

1. Solid Waste ManagementPD 825Nov 7, 1975
PROVIDING PENALTY FOR IMPROPER DISPOSAL OF GARBAGE AND OTHER FORMS OF UNCLEANLINESS AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

indio speaks: interesting, "PENALTY FOR IMPROPER DISPOSAL OF GARBAGE AND OTHER FORMS OF UNCLEANLINESS AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES." I wonder how strict this is implemented or even how companies are monitored to know if a violation has been commited. If strictly implemented this could minimize or even get rid of companies who don't comply with these laws.

2.PD 1586 June 11, 1978
Establishing the Environmental Impact Statement System including other Environmental Management and Related Measures

indio speaks: I believe a list of these measures come with permit applications, I just have to verify and ask companies with Environmental Compliance Certificate.

check out this site to see how to apply for an ECC
(complete with requirements and procedures)

3.DAO 94-28July 26, 1994
INTERIM GUIDELINES FOR THE IMPORTATION OF RECYCLABLE MATERIALS CONTAINING HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES

indio speaks: I believe this law could be an answer to the emerging problem of unrecyclable materials containing hazardous substances.

These "materials" include old/used computers, notebooks and other electronic equipments such as printers and photocopiers that are not eco-friendly.

Since these are considered non-recylcleble, they pile up in our junk-yards, and still containing hazardous substances that are eventually introduced to the environment.

************************************************************************************
I have nothing against our goverment or DENR, it just saddens me to see how our environment is dying day by day despite the great environmental laws we have.

I hope the campaign help reinforce these laws...but at the end of the day,
it boils down to stricter implementation and intitiative.
